Ohio Retired Police Officer Re-qualification
Per the Ohio Revised Code and the Law Enforcement Officer’s Safety Act (LEOSA) passed by congress under H.R. 218 in 2004, retired officers may carry concealed weapons as long as they meet requalification standards set by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission (OPOTC). Individuals seeking requalification must show a retired Ohio Law Enforcement (village, town, township or city police, deputy sheriff, Ohio State Patrol, BCI&I, Ohio Department of Natural Resourses) ID before qualification. Currently, all retired officers must qualify annually.
- Individuals must bring all handguns they carry (double action revolvers and semi-auto pistols only)
- 50 rounds of ammo per handgun,
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
- Holster(s) in the mode of carry they prefer
Dress the way you carry concealed in public. This process generally takes about an hour and costs $50.00 regardless of how many pistols you bring.
ID Cards will be mailed to student after qualification is complete.
